Writing a Letter to the Next BizCom Students*

Compose a letter of 250-300-words addressed to a new student about to take the course you have just finished. Include advice and insights about how to succeed in the class. Print your response so your instructor can share these anonymous letters with the next group of students taking the class. Have fun writing to your peers!

Employers Turn to Personality Tests and Astrology to Find Good Fits

Organizations consider being a good fit integral to hiring, but finding that elusive quality has some employers stumped—so stumped that they are turning to personality questionnaires, astrology, and even handwriting analysis to help them find well-suited new-hires.

Employers have no trouble finding applicants with the necessary credentials and experience to fill a position due to the high number of qualified candidates searching for jobs. However, no one wants to make a hire only to find that the individual is a poor fit within the organization. This situation has led employers to use personality tests as well as non-traditional assessments to evaluate candidates’ compatibility with the organization.

Make the Last Day Count

By the end of the semester—especially spring—everyone is ready for next steps: summer jobs, internships, travel, or just plain hanging around, often making the last day of class a throwaway. Nevertheless, it is actually a perfect time to remind students of all they have learned over the months in your classroom.

For the last class to really count, prep students by setting clear goals and being transparent about your expectations. Do you want students to measure the knowledge they’ve gained? Prepare for a final exam? Connect the dots between concepts and topics you’ve covered?
