Is Hugging at Work Okay?

To hug or not to hug? That is the question in the era of #MeToo and leftover behaviors from the pandemic.
Studies repeatedly show that workplace friendships are important, and hugging a friend is the norm for many. However, a hug can be considered unwanted or even harassment. Some people are uncomfortable about being touched by those they are not close to. A small woman, for example, may not take kindly to a six-foot-four man pulling her in for an embrace. And if that unwanted cuddle is reported to HR, the hugger could be in hot water.
