Employers Crack Down on Perk Abuse…

You use the office printer to download forms you need to give to your vet or accountant. And maybe buy some crackers and cheese from the supermarket for a snack—using your company credit card—instead of taking a client to lunch. Or just use a meal allowance on something else altogether. No big deal, right?

Wrong. Companies looking to economize are hiring the “perk police” to catch and release employees who take advantage of privileges that are frequently part of a worker’s compensation package. From Meta to Target, companies are seeking ways to fire employees for not adhering to the letter of the law, or at least company policies. After all, axing employees for cause is a lot cheaper than giving a severance package for a layoff.
